The Customer Service staff at City Hall is available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. to answer and direct calls, help with questions, take payments and offer assistance to our customers. Auto Tags: Tags may be purchased at the Washington County Government Building, downtown Sandersville (478- 552-2144). Newcomers moving from out-of-state are allowed 30 days for purchasing a Georgia license plate. Failure to meet this courtesy deadline will result in added fines or penalties.

Motor vehicle tags must be updated yearly. Your birth date is the deadline for the purchase of tags. Owners of large trucks cannot buy tags with the following exceptions: some trucks and buses; disabled vets; U.S. Reserve; honorary consul; State Senators and Representatives; U.S. Senators and Congressmen; ex-POWs; street rod; National Guard; veteran organization; commander; high state office holders; Medal of Honor winners.

Occupational Tax: All new businesses are required to have a building and fire inspection and will also be required to pay an annual occupation tax. Please contact City Hall for more information at 478-552-2525.

Drivers' Licenses:You must apply for a Georgia driver license within 30 days of becoming a Georgia resident. All Customer Service Centers can transfer an out-of-state license to a Georgia driver license.

Electric Service: Service is provided in the cityof Sandersville by the city-owned power company. A deposit is required for residences and for mobile homes. Service in other areas of the county is provided by Washington electric Membership Corporation (552-2577) and the Georgia Power Company (552- 7341).

Public Schools: Public schools are operated by the Washington County Board of Education 552-3981. The following items must be presented if your child is entering school for the first time: birth certificate; immunization records for DTP, rubella and polio; certificates proving hearing and vision screenings have occurred; and if your child is transferring, a copy of the most recent academic transcript.

Voter Registration: To register for all elections, residents must be at least 18 years of age. Residents may register at the registrar's office in the Washington County Courthouse 552-5239.

FREE COVID TESTING INFORMATION

Free COVID-19 testing is offered twice weekly in Sandersville -- Monday and Thursday from 8 a.m. until noon. For screening for testing through the North Central Health District, you must contact the COVID-19 testing number 844-987-0099 to get a referral for testing. The health district also offers testing on different days in each county in the district (see schedule here).
