PUBLIC HEARING FOR 2023-2024 COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT – DISASTER RECOVERY (CDBG-DR)
CITY OF SANDERSVILLE
2023-2024 COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT – DISASTER RECOVERY
(CDBG-DR)
PUBLIC HEARING
The City of Sandersville is considering applying to the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) for Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery Funds (CDBG-DR) of up to $265,726,000. Congress appropriates these funds in response to presidentially declared disasters. The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) allocates the appropriated funding to the State of Georgia and entitlement communities based on unmet needs and mitigation allocations to primarily benefit low and moderate-income persons.
$50,000,000.00 of these funds have been allocated by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) to the infrastructure sector for the Competitive Application Infrastructure Program. This program is designed to fund infrastructure projects in communities impacted by Hurricane Idalia, Tropical Storm Debby, and Hurricane Helene between 2023 and 2024. The funds will be utilized in the most impacted and distressed counties affected by the 2023 and 2024 storms.
The activities for which these funds must be used are to rebuild areas affected by disaster. The funds can also be used for planning activities that contribute to community resiliency. More specific details regarding eligible activities, plans to assist displaced person (if any), the estimated amount of funds proposed to be used for the activities to benefit low- and moderate- income persons and the rating system will be provided at a public hearing to be held at the Sandersville City Council Chambers, 134 Malone Street, Sandersville, GA 31082, on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at 11:00 am.
